I have recently began revamping our Puppy build. Recompiling the majority of applications found on the ISO as quite a few of the PETs are relatively ancient. As well there are many missing packages we find complimentary to the portable OS. I will post the PETs and latest ISO as soon as I find time.
…I have begun uploading the recompiled PETs. They can be found under the “Puppy Linux Pets” category in the Downloads section.
I finally made time to add the finishing touches to our Puplet aptly named sPCpup over the week end. The base image has been posted to the Downloads section.

I noticed a minor issue regarding the Wine menu and a missing icon. I have rebuilt the image with the fix included and uploaded to the Downloads section. I didn’t feel it was necessary to increment the ISO revision, so the image name remains the same. If you are running live and would like to manually fix this issue type the following from the command line:
cd /usr/share/desktop-directories; wget -O Puppy-Wine.directory http://slighpcs.com/downloads/puppy/spc431/Puppy-Wine-menu
Please feel free to post any comments or questions regarding PETs or Puppy Linux images here.
Sheesh… another issue with the wine pet was discovered… apparently I have got to slow down. Winetricks and all of the application symlinks were missed on the inclusion. I apologize for the inconvenience as you will need to uninstall/reinstall or simply reinstall over the top of the existing. The updated PET has be uploaded.
I have been working on compatibility fixes for the pets we have compiled… these fixes will be tested under the original Puppy Linux 4.3.1 as well as any other derivatives requested. I will post the fixes as they are completed, time permitting of course.
As per request, I have stripped 40-something packages from the original puplet over the past few days. Mind you, there is no huge significance in file size; 97.7MB as compared with the original image 102.1MB. Below is the list of packages removed.
Asunder, Bcrypt-file-encryption, Burniso2cd-burn-iso-file-to-CD-DVD, Epdfview, Galculator, Gcolor2, Getez, Gfontselect, GAdmin-Rsync, Gpicview, Gtkdialog-tex-markup-editor, Gtk-Hash, Hardinfo, Hiawatha, Htop, ISOMaster-iso-file-editor, MP-console-editor, MTR-Traceroute, Osmo, Pawdioconverter, Pbackup, Pdvdrsab, Petspec-pkg-db-generator, Pmirror, Pmwget, Pnethood, Pplog-blog, Pschedule, Ptimer, Pudd-copy-drive-partition, Pure_FTPd-FTP-server, Pwidgets, Quisp, Secure-ssh-telnet, Ssh-gui-secure-telnet, Transmission, Treesize, Xdelta-difference-manager, Xfburn-cd-edition, Xfdiff-cut, Xfmedia, Xine, and Zmixer-sound-mixer.
You can find the ISO listed as sPCpup-431-stripped in the Downloads section. I will also post the individual Pets as soon as I have some time.
Introducing sPCpup-431-familiar, at just over 148MB, this ISO is packed with familiar applications to get most any job done efficiently and effectively.
Highlights include:
You can find the ISO in the Linux section under Downloads.

rr17302, I had a chance to look at the possibilities of your request and I have a solution (in theory that is). Functionality seems workable and I don’t believe there are any license restrictions, but it sure would be great to have the sources… In the meantime, I will see what I can do. I’ll keep you posted and possibly create a new post/iso if all goes well.
Thank you for the kind words… I will take a look at your request and see if there’s anything I can do.
tdurbin, nice work on a slimmer puppy linux! I saw you also use Macrium Reflect. Is there any way to incorporate Reflect’s Linuc Rescue CD into a Puppy Linux build? I’ve had problems on Lenovo PCs where the MR Rescue CD wouldn’t recognize the hardware (network in most cases) but Puppy Linux tools found and initialized the network card just fine. If it was part of Puppy Linux, I think the Reflect Linux CD tool would work in every case. Thanks for any insights you can provide.
Very nice work, and Stripped version is faster than the original.
I hope others will be tested and describe their experiences.
I even sent an e-mail.
Kros54,
I’m not sure if it’s exactly what you were looking for… but I have posted a stripped-down version to the downloads section. If I have missed something, feel free to send me a detailed list of the packages you would like to see removed and I will do what I can.
Ted, I think this is very much interested in it. There is a proverb: good work needs time …
Good work! Kros54
kros54,
I have begun working on stripping sPCpup-4.3.1… it seems a lengthier process that I was expecting as there is no easy way to go about it. Never the less, expect to see something by the close of the weekend.
Ted, thank you, woooow! It’s good!!!
Kros54 (Hungary, Nagykőrös)
kros54, I really don’t consider myself an expert, but I would be happy to give it a go. I am however a bit caught up on a couple of projects at the time. If you can give me a little time (most likely, this weekend) I will do what I can as I think this would be a great idea. Thanks again for your confidence and kind words.
I think you Ted are good expert! I am not an expert in Linux, sorry…
This is not really my target, but I think it’s important to find
someone who would have the disposition and create minimal-Puppy
(of course, Xfce-basic (NOP)).
Its base would be a slight PC. This countains programs that a
beginner would never use.(For example, this programs shuold be removed:
timezone settings, Bcrypt, MTR, Osmo, Asunder, Ptimer, Psync, gcolor2, …)
These ones could be really deleted, cleared away.
So, what would remain?
- hardverhandling
- network setup + pwireless2
- Mozilla Firefox
- Mousepad (or Geany)
- Remaster Live CD tools
- Gxine
- mtPaint
- Xfce setting
- …
I think, the new ISO-file is smaller (and faster) as original NOP.
Do you understand exactly what I mean with all thes?
What do you think?
Are you going to do it?
sincerelly:
Kros54
kros54, thanks for the feedback, it’s much appreciated. NOP is hands-down my favorite puplet as well. The stability, functionality, and aesthetics just can’t be beat (in my opinion, of course).
Yes, the NOP-clone slighPCs it’s good idea. I am member Hungarian Puppy Linux Community and I made hungarian version slightPC’s, because pupplet is better by wifi-connect. original NOP.
Congratulations!
